Read this before you send any money.
Real estate closings are a prime target for email fraud. Criminals impersonate lawyers, agents and escrow companies and send fake wiring instructions. These are our rules, and they do not change.
Our rules
What Cierra will never do.
Never hold your funds
Cierra does not receive or hold client money. Funds go only to the licensed escrow provider named in your file.
Never email wiring instructions
Instructions are published in your portal, behind your login, and must be confirmed by phone with your lawyer before you send.
Never change them by message
If anyone — including someone who appears to be us — tells you the account has changed, treat it as fraud until confirmed.
Before you wire
Four checks, every time.
Log in
Open the portal from our website, not from a link in an email, and find the instructions on your file.
Call
Call the lawyer on your file on the number shown in the portal or one you already have. Never use a number from the email or message you received.
Match
Confirm the beneficiary name, bank, CLABE or account number and reference, digit by digit.
Confirm receipt
After sending, check that the escrow provider's receipt appears in your portal the same or next business day.
If something looks wrong
Stop, then call.
If you think you have received fraudulent instructions or sent funds to the wrong account, call your bank immediately and ask it to recall the transfer, then call the lawyer on your file. Speed matters: recalls are most likely to succeed within the first hours.
